Default 3x00 top end swap question

So I am intending on doing the 3100 top end swap and all the articles I read about it saythe engine must be removed. My question is does the engine really need to be removed?I have changed the head gaskets on this previously and I never pulled the engine then. If it is a direct bolt on then why remove it? If I hear that it doesn't need taken out I will probably tackle the swap soon.

Your best bet is to at least lower the engine by un bolting the k member and shock towers.

And depending on which top end swap you do, you may need to replace your pistons.

the 3100 swap is direct no need to pull the engine. and i think its only the 3500 swap that requires new pistons.

It's the 3400 that requires piston swap. The 3500 swap doesn't require piston swap but runs something like 11/1 compression...

Not sure but I believe you can run which ever stock manifolds that go to the heads you choose. Or grab headers that woul originally go to a 3.4 Camaro/Firebird. There's a really good thread about the 3X00 swap on fullthrottlev6.com it should be in the 60degree section. It's a sticky I believe.

Thanks bro! This has actually been bookmarked on my toolbar for a couple weeks. He said he got headers because they fit but i think when he said something about them fitting i think he was comparing the rksport and pacesetter brands...kinda jealous you got Socoms set lol
