Default 3.4l Auto to 6 speed?

Hey, first off, I want to apologize for my disappearance. I was at the Occupy Wall Street protest for a while and than went down to check out the Occupy Philly. Sorry if I come off harsh by thinking that joining everyone for that was a little more important than the burnout picture. Ill post one up soon just for the sake that I missed out.

Now, I have the 3.4l V6 4-speed Auto. I know you can do a 5 speed swap with ease, but what about a 6 speed? I know the 6 speed trans is probably larger with different mounts. So I was wondering if it would line up still on the engine and would just need some custom mounts or if it doesnt line up with the engine at all since its made for the v8.

One guy asked on here before but was never answered.

I know of one guy that put a T-56 in a 3800. The process would be the same. There are two major problems with the swap.

1.) V6 and V8 have different bolt patteren on the engine and you can not use the t5 bell housing. This means you need to make a adater plate. Since the Dowel holes on the bell house need to be very accurate so the center line of the trans and the center line of the engine are in line, this is not something you can do on a drill press.

2.) clutch assembly, You need to find a fly wheel that will bolt to the 3.4 but hold a clutch that will work T56. SOunds easy but you end up buying parts and mod them a lot.

Just about all the other parts you could find from Junk Yards from V8 6 speed cars.

The one guy I read about had about 5K in the swap. The down side is the 3800 does not have enough torque on the low end to even use 6th gear until you get to 80 MPH. You could address this with 4.56 gears or you could track down the M28 T56 they have better gearing

I have all the parts including an extra M29 in my garage and I have access to the machines needed to make the custom stuff, I just do not see it at worth it.

I had a feeling it was going to need some modifications but that is a lot more than I would have ever expected. I am not exactly sitting on 5k either. haha. Thank you for the input, looks like I will just put in a 5 speed than. I dont know why, but I just love six speeds for some reason. Well the 5 speed will bolt right up basically so Ill do that and call it a day. Thanks again.
