3.4 engine is done
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here. I currently have a 1995 Camaro in my garage that needs some serious help. It has the 3.4 liter V6. It's not mine, but I'm basically trying to re-build it for my neighbor. We thought it had a blown head gasket because coolant and oil mixed (I have video of chocolate pudding coming out of the oil drain). I took the heads off and my neighbor took them to get rebuilt, so we basically have a new pair of heads. I decided that the right way to do this would be to pull the engine and replace the piston rings and bearings. While pulling the engine, we noticed that one of the pistons wasn't moving as we turned the crank to separate the engine from the tranny. I noticed that the one piston was higher than it should be. We pulled the engine and discovered that the push rod had broke off of the piston (not sure if that's the correct terminology). We were able to get the piston for that cylinder out and the bottom side of it was beat up. We also discovered that the cylinder wall had been gouged by the push rod to the point that it made a hole that allowed the coolant to get into the cylinder. It's nasty looking. Basically, the block is done. It's beyond repair. My question is where can we get a short block 3.4 liter engine? I've done some googling and have only found long block 3.4 liter engines and short block V8s. If this were my car, I'd completely scrap the 3.4 and put a V8 in there, but it's not. I suggested that, but he doesn't want to do that.

holy crap!!! if your looking for the cheapest thing to do you better just see if you can get another 3.4 engine. dont put a 3.8 in it unless you want your friends car to be parked for 6 months and spend more than enough to pay for another car. v8 would just about be as bad as the 3.8. would just about cost the same too. just try to find a block from a scrapyard or something. call around im sure theres one out there.
