Default 3.4 dumping coolant from behind motor

Hi.

My wife's '94 V6 has dumped all of its coolant. It appears to be coming from not the engine itself, but behind it, behind the firewall even, out onto the ground. There's also some coolant that burbles from a hard metal line in front of the firewall, top-left if you're standing in front of the car with the hood up.

Can anyone offer some suggestions of what this might be? I'm fearing that it's the heater core, and then whatever line that is inside the engine bay needs a new clamp or gasket. I figured I would ask here before I start pricing a heater core, since maybe it's something else.

Thanks guys and gals

You will need to check your heater hoses going to the heater core first and see if they need to be replaced.

So, it could just be a hose, even with it absolutely dumping coolant like that? I mean it was like I had turned on a coolant faucet.

you could have air in the coolant lines. does it come out right when you turn on the car or after it heats up a bit?

The coolant was way low, so I filled it back up. We then drove it about 8-10 miles, and I noticed the temp was inching towards the red, above the last white line on the gauge. So I pulled into the next gas station, and that's when it dumped all the coolant from behind the engine. I should note that it did not dump it until I had turned the car off. It then immediately dumped.

So, I guess yes, it takes a while for it to dump it.

bleed the coolant lines theres probably air in them. the same thing happened to me and i repaced the radiator before i realized the problem. My car would get to a little over half temp and all of the coolant would dump like a faucet. all yo have to do is unscrew the bolt on one of the valves until nothing but coolant comes out, at first it will be bubly and mostly air. make sure the car is running when you do this and be careful because it is hot.good luck let me know if this helps.

Update:

The hose behind the firewall was split wide open. Replacing.
