Default 3.4 cams

Why does the 3.4l "eat" its cams? This might be explained in the answer to the first question but is there anything you can do to prevent or slow down this process?

The 3.4 uses flat lifters, and if you don't break in the cam and lifters properly, the cam won't last long. Also, as Sick mentioned, syntectic oil is the way to go after the initial break in.
