Ok my car has been doing some interesting stuff lately. When I start it, it has a really choppy idle and smells like raw fuel and then after about 5 seconds, it idles up to 2000rpms and then comes back down and it's fine. If I try to give it gas while its choppy, it dies. So I went to Kwik Kar today to have to codes read and this is what I got.

#15 Coolant Sensor Too Low
#42 Electric Spark Timing
#35 Idle Speed Error
#82 Ignition Control 24x Signal Error

What do these mean and how can I fix them? Thanks in advance!!

 

15 - Engine Coolant Temperature sensor error (low temp indicated)—open coolant temp sensor circuit
Symptoms

Engine running too rich (hard starting or black smoke from exhaust)
The engine cooling fan may run constantly
Common Problems

A failed coolant temperature sensor is the most common cause of a Code 15
A quick test for the coolant temperature sensor circuit from the ECM would be to unplug the temp sensor and watch the coolant sensor reading on the scan tool while jumping the harness side of the sensor connector. The scan readings should switch from full cold to full hot when inserting and removing the jumper from the connector.


42 - Ignition bypass circuit error
Symptoms

Slight lack of power may be noted
Common Problems

Ignition control module
Wiring issue between the ignition module and the ECM


35 - Idle Air Control Valve problem or idle error
Symptoms

Idle too high or too low
Engine stalling
Common Problems

Faulty Idle Air Control Valve
Deposits on throttle body or Idle Air Control Valve air passages


82 - 3x Crankshaft Position sensor circuit error
Symptoms

Engine may not start
Engine stalling
Common Problems

Faulty Crankshaft Position sensor
Damage wiring to Crankshaft Position sensor

 

Woah big hoss! Sounds like I have my work cut out for me!

 

i would start with a temp sensor and go from there. a couple of the issues could be caused by the false info the sensor is giving. you can test it with a ohm meter using the graph at shbox.

 

Well the sensor is not plugged in because I broke the piece that the harness plugs into. Party foul... I'll replace the sensor ASAP and see if that fixes it. Thanks craby!

 

You have to be carful when you get a bunch of codes at one time. Some times one fail thing can set a sting of errors. I have seen a faulty crank sensor set both and ignition coil and IAC codes.

It makes sense when you think about it. The IAC is haveing a tuff time getting the car that has a miss to idle its adjusting so much it falls out of "normal" operating parameters.

By all means fix anything your sure is not working right, reset the code and see what comes back.

The other thing to look for is bad grounds for the PCM. I am not sure where the PCM ground is on the 3.4, on the 5.7 it is on the passangers sit of the block right above the starter.

 

Well I replaced my crank positioning sensor about 4 months ago so I assume that the problem resides elsewhere.

 

Don't assume. We had a similar problem on my friends 95 and I ignored the CKS because it was recently replaced. Turns out the new one was bad.

Cleaning the IAC it not a bad idea either and it not working right could easily cause the shudder and revving at start up. The CKS not reading right tho will throw the IAC into a fit. The temp sensor will not cause issues until the engine has started then it could cause idle issues since it is a big part of the metering system in your car.

How does your IAT sensor look? I know it does not have a code but it can cause some of these issues too
