Default 3.4, 3.8 question

whatz up!!

i got this project in the planing stages (for the next year or 2) for a drift truck project..

the motor i plan on using is a 3.4 or 3.8 v6 with a grand prix gtp top end..

will the gtp top end work on a 3.4?

and what is a rough est on hp if i do the following...

milder cam (like very mild)
cleaned up, balanced internals
ported and ploshed gtp heads, and modded gtp intake with ported, pullied blower..
headers, magnaflow cats, and catback exhaust
MSD ignition, or malery if i cant afford msd.
and minor fuel system upgrades (walbro 255 pump, fuel railes, and gtp injecters..

and a good tune...

ill also be using a v6 camaro 5sp, and a ls1 10 bolt rear end (they have lsd's dont they?)

thanks for looking!!

GTP heads will not fit on 3.4 engine.

3.8 and 3.4 are completely different motors. How is your fabrication skills? I do not think they ever put a 3.8 in a truck. I would think a 4.3 would be a better choice for drifting since it will have the most torque. Also what computer system will you be using for the fuel system?

Do they make a system for GM? Early S-10's had 2.8's for you could find hardware to fit a 3.4 into your truck. With stock 165 HP its going to take a lot work to get that into a drifter. Do you already have a doner car? The manual trannies in the the camaro are a bit odd in that they are rotated 15 deg for space. The only shifters you can get are low cut camaro shifters which only come up thru the floor about 8-10 inchs. The S-10 shifters are much longer but they hitting your leg if bolted to a Camaro tranny. Custom shifter will be easy tho. For the 3.8 you will need to make motor mounts also if you are thinking about a GP supercharge remember they pull air from the back of the supercharge and your TB will be right at the firewall. It would not be as hard as putting the same SC in a camaro (which not worth it).

If cost is a factor you really should think about a V8 convertion. All the parts are out there and SBC will give the most HP per dollar then any other motor out there. Infact even a mid range small block build would most likely be to much power for the T5 tranny.

well iys still in the planning stages, it wont happed for a couple years minimal..

i was thinging a bout a 327 so it will still have some top end for high speed drifts but i also want to keep front end weight down..drifting isnt all about power its about balance also, thats why i want to go with a s/c 3.8, or a semi built 3.4, cuz they are much lighter than a iron sbc..if i cant use a camaro 5sp, or a 2.8/ 4.3 5sp wont bolt up to a 3.8 then ill think about building a 4.3 but i would really want either a built 3.4, or a s/c 3.8..or if i can find a good deal on aluminum heads and intake for a 327 then i might think about getting one..

im also gonna use a '86-92 s10 2wd since there dirt cheap

or even a older s10 blazer and convirt it back to a 2wd
