2.8L -> 3.4L question(s)
My 2.8L MPFI engine (86 Camaro) has been good to me over the years, but recently one of my cylinder heads cracked (due to the last mechanic who worked on my car trying to tap out the threads where the head meets the exhaust manifold) Im looking at doing the 3.4 swap but most of what I've read has said to just use the 3.4L block and use everything else off your 2.8L.
I assume you can use the 3.4L heads and then still use the rest of the 2.8L parts, but i dont want to assume =) I want to make sure before I buy a 3.4L engine and rebuild it that its going to work. If anyone knows or has experience with this that can shed some light on the subject, it would be most appreciated. Id love to know which parts are interchangable and which parts are not.
My engine also has some kind of air pump which was attached on the lower passenger side of the engine. It siezed on me so i just took the belt off =) Does the 3.4L have one that will mount up? I dont pretend to know what it does or how it helps the engine, I think its part of the emissions system but not 100% sure on what it does or if its needed as some emissions stuff can hinder an engine if its taken out of the loop.
Thanx in advance for any info.
Mike
