Default 1995 3.4L will not start

I have a 1970 opel GT that I have put a 3.4l from a 1995 camaro. When I try to start it, it will start right up and then die. When I try to start it again. It backfires but will not start. I suspect the crank sensor. I pulled the codes and got a code 36 which relates to the crank sensor. Any suggestions?

Crank sensor seems to be the first place to check! Check wires and connectors.

"When a crankshaft sensor has failed or is failing, certain timing problems will arise in engine function. The engine may start normally in some cases, but will cut off after a few minutes (or seconds) of operation. More than likely the engine will be unable to start at all. Since the crankshaft sensor is responsible for engine timing, the driver may experience engine backfire or irregular rpm function, if the vehicle starts at all."

Hint the backfiring due to timing.

Bad wires wont cause the symptoms he described. Clearly a issue with timing, which the crank sensor is directly tied to.

I should have clarified, I ment the wires that go to the sensor.I have seen codes kicked due to a chaffed wire leading to a sensor.

this is true^

also if you keep the car outside, you never know what kind of critters might get in and chew wires too. i bought a lumina a long time ago that ran like junk and always threw a MAP code. followed the wires and found 2 chewed wires near the computer that turned out to be the ground and a signal wire for the sensor.
