so i just bought a 1997 z 6-speed w/ 60k miles.
just realized a noise :/
i can hear a whine when the clutch is not fully pressed in. when fully pressed in the noise goes away.
i also can feel the vibration through shifter when clutch is not pressed in.
it's not terribly loud.
car is functioning fine as of now.

It is the throw out bearing, mine was doing the same thing and once replaced it has disappeared. Not loud but when you know it isn't suppose to be there and it is it's very irritating. I also got a louder noise if I put it in first and let the clutch out while having it below 1200rpm and it would stay until you brought it over that mark - That also is gone now.

The throw bearing can last awhile in that condition. As it nears the end of its life it will also cause a noise with the clutch pushed in. The noise can get pretty loud.
Since the car has 60k on it I would plan on doing the clutch. It is just about the same amount of work. Your going to want to replace the hydralic system also. I think you can get the entire hydralic system from GM for around $200 (Master & Slave cylinders and the hose). Go with a aftermarket clutch they are beter and cheaper then the GM clutchs. Which clutch would depend on your plans for the car.
