A couple of grand would be cheap for Remanufactured/rebuilt installed. Having it rebuilt price will vary greatly depending on labor rates and the area you live in. To give you an example my dad had his 700R4 transmission rebuilt in his Olds at the dealer and it cost him $2800. 18 months later I had to do the one in my Monte SS, I did it myself it cost me $280 in parts, that was a full HD master kit that had every wear Item in it and extra clutch's and plates. I also threw some hardened gears out of a Vett in there I had from a warranty repair I did, "Woot, free parts". That was Late 80's prices but it show how much how much the prices can vary. FYI your 4L60e is the computer controlled version of a 700R4.

The best way for most people to get a trans done on the cheap is for you to do the Remove and Replace and carry the transmission to someone that does it on the side. The best guys are the ones that do transmission all day long as their full time gig and they do a few a week "at home" as a side hustles. It is important that the guy does a lot of transmission. He should have a kit he prefers and quote you a price + any non-wear parts. Most shops will not do carry ins unless a shop does the R&R. There are too many ways to screw up a trans on the reinstall and that can cause finger pointing if something goes south. We can go over those if you think you can find a guy. The cheapest way to get the car on the road is to buy a junk yard trans and put it in yourself. This is a roll of the dice. Maybe a small shop would be willing to do it if the the used transmission come with a warranty but the warranty only replaces the trans not the labor. Sometimes junk yards will do the install but avoid that as much as possible.

Figure at least $700 for used and $1700 for Reman with a core charge and shipping. As a professional with a lift I could remove a trans like this in about 45 minutes and 1 hour to install and another 15 minutes to test drive and top off the fluid but good luck finding any shop that will charge 2 hours for it. Even with book time being around 3 hours shop owners always charged closer to 10. Again depending on where you live that is $65/hour to $180/hour.

In most areas you can also find a smaller shop that can R&R the trans and they will send it out for rebuild OR you can use the same shop and buy a new transmission. Most shops will want to get you the transmission and mark up the price. this covers them if there is a "warranty repair".

level 1 trans at performabuilt trans is 3200 bucks nowadays. wow. price is up from a few years ago last time I looked. I would think having a shop rebuild with you removing and installing is gonna run 2000-2500. depending on shop and how much damage. https://www.performabuilt.com/produc...mission-4l60e/
PATC transmission level one looks to run about 2500 https://transmissioncenter.net/shop/...-1-stock-plus/

Prices around me went insane. My Mechanic quoted just over a $1000 to replace a lower ball joint in my 2007 Dodge pickup beater. That is more than I paid for the truck for 5 years ago. I think I live to close to NYC.

Ok, I have been qouted 6500.
I am in the San Fran bay area, so I o expect prices to be a little higher than many others.
I used to be a mech, but I am now disabled, so I cannot do the R&R myself any longer
Trans 4000
Fluid 100
R&R is 1600.
There is also an oil leak rear seal, and this is 700.

That's outrageous!
Buy this one from Jegs for under $1800 shipped and pay a mechanic to R&R it not a trans shop.

Many shops will not install carry in parts but he should be able to find a smaller one, its worth a shot. 1600 bucks! When I was a tech I could easily do two a day and go home early. Air tools and lifts for the win. The rear seal is complete BS if they already have the transmission out. $2300 in labor, even IF they are $200 an hour, is twice what it should be. A quick search show book time on a transmission removal at 4.9 hours. To me that sounds to me like the first time number. At that $1600 that is what $320 per hour?

Price since Covid have gone crazy. Many shop will look at what the market will bare. If there are not enough shops still open willing to do heavier jobs like this it may be the going rate. You can call around and get quotes. Since it is an R&R job most places should be able to quote over the phone. I know if I had a large job I can go about a hour west of where I live and find much cheaper labor by guys that really want you to come back. If you still have 3rd gear you could drive farther from the city.

Monster transmission has one Free shipping, No core charge and a no fault warranty for $2500. That no fault warranty would speed up warranty claims. I would think shops would really like that. If I was installing it for you the no fault warranty would make me feel better. Reality is expect a 25% markup on parts and that is the low side.
