Default Transmission Problem?

Whenever I drive my car and i give it enough throttle to shift at 2k rpm , it makes sort of a whine towards the rear right side of the car, if i floor it it doesnt make the noise? Could this be the differential maybe? its not coming from the middle .

theres a plug on the side of the center section, about a third of the way up. with the car level, the oil level in the rearend should be up to the bottom of that hole, just under is ok.
