Hughes Performance HP3789K - Hughes Performance Transmission Rebuild Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Probably one of the better one's out there. I'm looking at an older Summit catalog and that's the only one I found in it for the 4L60E. Are you sure you're up to the task of rebuilding a automatic trans? They are not easy and one mistake can mess it all up. I'd find a DVD or handbook on rebuilding one, preferably for the 4L60E.

As long as it says it's for 4L60E, you're good. Some parts might swap between the 4L60E and the 4L60, but I can't say for sure so don't quote me on that. Well if you're getting a DVD on it, you should be fine. I'd watch the DVD first before you began, then watch it again as you're starting the process.

You should make sure you get the DVD before you order the kit. There are a lot of special tools need to do this rebuild. In most cases it is cheaper to to pay someone to rebuild it unless you know someone with the tools. It is a good learning experance but to buy all that for one tranny is rarly cost effective.

The cheapest way to get your automatic repaired is to find someone who does the rebuilds for a living but also work out of his house doing side jobs. You pull the trans parts plus $200 and in many cases these guys know where to save you $100 on the part.I have seen bench rebuilds for $500 total as long as there is not major damage.
