Default Transmission Confusion

Whats better for a stroked 383 that I want to mostly run on the strip but still drive on the street? Ive heard good and bad things about the 700R4 and the Turbo 350 but I dont know which is better for my application. Some help would be great.

[&:] the TH 350 and TH 400 are great trans with the 400 being nearly bullet proof. there limiting factor is that they have have but three gears and a final drive of 1to 1. the 700r4 which should be built to handle the power you are expecting from your motor is a great option for those looking for a good strip car that they want to drive on the street as well. the reason for this is a nice low first gear for a great launch (lower than the TH350,400) and a true overdrive for the freeway and street. this allows for a little better street manners while using a good low set of gears for the all important launch at the strip. in other words instead of having 410 or 456 in the rear making the freeway miserable you can use 340 or 373's and it will be like having 410 or 456 but with freeway manners of 308 drive ratio. its a great way to go kurt

yeah, the 700r4 all the way is better for an auto... but you could go stick...
