Cool reverse lockout solenoid

Hello guys, I have a 96 Impala SS. And I did the t56 swap. I ran everything the way that I was told. And for the reverse to work, I had to wire up two wires. 1 to the brake pedal for 12volt power and the other to ground. Now when I step on the clutch and the brake pedal, I can hear the solenoid click. But I can put it in reverse. I can only put it in reverse when the car is off. could my reverse lockout solenoid be no good? Or when I hear the click when the car is on, its closing the solenoid?

So should I look for a different 12volt power on the brake switch?
