Also the gear ratio should be on the ring gear right?

 

You can use your axles but your abs light will be on due to no hook up. Non-TCS cars had the sensor attached to the ring gear in the carrier with one sensor in the top of the diff. Open it up and look at the internals for anything broken or chipped as well as any excessive metal in the gear oil.

Gear ratio will be stamped in the form of XX-XX, you have to divide the two numbers. In the case of mine, it reads 41-15, which divided makes for 2.73 gears. If you plan on wanting steeper gears (depending on what yours has) now would be the time to do it. Make sure your new rear is a limited slip (posi). Spin one axle and the other axle should go the same direction. Opposite direction indicates an open diff.

 

MKCoconuts for the win! My abs isnt currently working at the moment anyways and I dont really like ABS so no big loss there. I'm hoping to going an axle with 3.42 or 3.23 gears. Last question, if I get a rear end from a 98- 02 car, will my rear calipers bolt up?

 

They should. If anything, you may have to take the bracket off your current rear and swap it to the later one. I know the rear brakes swapped at some point but I'm not sure if the rear brackets are the same. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

 

Thank u yet again MKCoconuts. I found one a rear end from a 94 Trans Am with 3.42s but 165k miles on it. The yard wants $200 for it (fair price??) so I'll be going with that one unless its sold b4 I get paid next week. I'll try to get under the car and hose every bolt down with PB Blaster a couple days ahead of time. I'll let yall know when I get the swap started.

 

I can pick them up at my local yard for $100, but they are a bit more plentiful where I'm at. That's more than they are worth in scrap weight around here and that's with 100k and under miles. 165k miles? I would work them down on price if I were you.

 

Wow really? Yea I'm gonna take your advice there too MK. They normally do flex on the price at this yard too. And I won't be DIY-ing this. Found someone to do the job for me for $100 n I trust em. I know its the lazy way out but I'm terrified of breaking one of those 20 year old rusty bolts...

Well me and my buddy got the rear end in. It works fine but now my transmission is slipping into neutral all through 1st and if I floor it so looking for another one of those next (huff). I found a rebuilt one for cheap out of a 98 SS. Will that work in my 94 Z28??

 

It will not. You will need to find one from a '94 or '95. I don't believe the '96 and up will work with your computer and '93 didn't use a computer to control the trans.
