Default How to change transmission mount

if you have the tools. gotta get er up off the ground, need a jack and some jackstands or ramps. always use a backup to hold the car up like rims or extra jackstands and set the brake and block the wheels. once under there set your jack up under the transmission pan and lay the 2x6 or other flat material that will spread out the pressure so the jack wont damage the pan.

once set jack er till theres a little pressure on the transmission so to lift the transmission a tad. then take the single nut off thats in the middle of the crossmember that holds the transmission up. next take the four bolts off, two on each side, the crossmember will drop as you take the last bolt out so i like to loosen them all till i can get them with my fingers, then i can hold the crossmember with one hand and take the bolts out with the other. once the crossmember is out you will most likely have half the transmission mount fall with it. the mount is held to the transmission by two bolts take them and with them the mount. install new mount and reinstall the crosssmember by reversing the procedure.

Good write up. Guess that's the persons option, but when I changed the mount on my 96, I didn't need to drop or even loosen the crossmember.
There was more than enough clearance after jacking the trans up slightly to slip out the old and in with the new mount.

mine has a stud on the mount that would not allow me to lift transmission high enough to get the mount out. also having the crossmember outa the way makes it easier to get to the mount bolts.

Mine had a stud too (just looked at the old one), but I was able to get it up enough to pull it out!
Once you unbolt it from the trans, you can rock it.

Yeah it was an auto. Once jacked, I could hold it up all day if I wanted to! lol
