Pull the slave cylinder and the adapter piece it bolts to and try pushing on the clutch fork with just your fingers. You shouldn't be able to move it. Try wiggling it if you can.

The only think that makes me rethink that it's not a broken fork is you said the pedal returned after pressing it down. When the one of mine broke, the pedal was stuck to the floor.

That just means his clutch pedal return spring is working, and yours is broken.

Because the broken fork wasn't putting pressure against the slave cylinder and in turn would be returning hydraulic pressure back against the master cylinder and pushing back on the clutch pedal. With nothing connected to the pedal, the pivot/coil spring on the pedal assembly (when working) will bring the pedal back up. Without a spring, you have the weight of the pedal leaning on the master cylinder.

Lucky for you, you can get a reproduction clutch fork now. Couldn't get them a few months ago when mine snapped. Price isn't too bad honestly. Before you couldn't find one under $500.

Pulling a trans in these isn't bad. Time consuming, yes. Hopefully you have better luck selling yours than I am with mine.
