one question, how the auto with the 4.10s ??? whats the revs at 70 mph ??

does the car actually drop out of gear?? I presume the ecu has been tuned to the gears ? Sometimes mine kinda does it when its in between gears sort of thing. Is it like say your driving at 50 mph or something then let off and the revs drop to idle??? then do you step on the gas hard or just gently??

does your tranny hold gears?? if i put mine in 1st it will hold from a stand still to the limiter and not change until i put it in 2nd. Also can you gear down ok, i can put mine in 3rd and drive about and as soon as i put it to 2nd it gears down. Mine is a stock box

Keep us posted if and when you find what it's doing. The trans in my 92 Vette is doing the same thing. If cruising down the road in any gear but O/D, the rpm's drop to idle when I let off the gas. I can feel it coasting free, no grab. Then give it gas and the rpm's go up until it grabs again. I also get a good 3-4 second lag between reverse and when drive finally grabs. And after a drive, the trans makes a strange whiny noise after it's put in park (not a gear type whine). Put it in reverse, then park and the noise goes away. The trans shifts good and crisp under power, with no slips though. Does any of this other stuff sound familiar too? As near as I can determine, I think it's the torque converter. One reason is because in O/D the converter is locked together, and that's when it doesn't act like it's going into neutral. I think I may have to eventually replace it, maybe with a higher stall (darn)!

According to the FSM lack of engine braking in 1-2-3 could be due to:

Shift linkage out of adjustment

Valve body problems
4-3 sequence valve stuck
checkball out of position
spacer plate and gasket damaged or out of position

Input cluch assembly
turbine shaft oil passage plugged
turbine shaft seals or ***** worn, damaged, missing
porous forward or overrun piston
bad overrun piston seals
overrun piston checkball not sealing
