Transmission problems with 4L60E
Whos here has had to replace their 4L60E tranny and how did it act prior to dying? Did any of you have the transmission completely fail to the point the car wouldnt move? I just did last night....It didnt even wimper...Just like someone flicked a switch it instantly died....I'm madder than hell. What do you think....I had it towed home. I will pull the inspection cover tonight and see if the bolts for the flexplate came out or something....I mean its that strange....The drive shaft is still there....WTF could cause it to totally quit like that? Pump? Convertor? It didnt make any noises it just wouldnt shift....to second then it revved up and nothing was there at all...couldnt even limp it in 1st gear! No leaks...
The tranny was rebuilt like 3,000 miles ago by a shop when My friend owned the car....Thats the only reason I bought the car....with 130,000 miles was the fact the tranny was brand new...was a good selling feature over other cars. So for it to fail now is no excuse.
Whats your take on it? any of this happen to you?

RE: Transmission problems with 4L60E
It is a computer controlled transmission, it could be a simple thing, like a broken wire or a loose connector, or some serious internal damage. Go to a good transmission shop & get it diagnosed, They have the tools, and most times they can identify the trouble without having to dismantle the transmission.

RE: Transmission problems with 4L60E
I called the local transmission shop that works on late model cars etc. they said even though the transmission is computer controlled that it will still move mechanically but just not shift at all or shift incorrectly....They said based on the fact that it wont move under any sort of power that its a mechanical failure and the tranny has to come apart to be diagnosed....
In my mind I could see it being a stuck servo or shaft in the valve body allowing the pump to bypass all the fluid from the pump into a useless mess...I will pull the pan tonight and see if it has any debri or obvious flaws if I can....Its awful hot outside.
