Look under your Camaro once and follow the front shock from top to bottom. No where does it attach to the spindle. If you look at nearly every FWD car, the spindle attaches straight to the dampener on the car making it a strut. View above link I provided to see this visual difference.
The only reason I feel the need to chime in on this is I prefer it when people use correct terminology. Such as engine and motor. They are different. A fuel powered vehicle has a engine, not a motor. A motor does work by electricity. Flexplate and flywheel. Flexplates go on automatics. Flywheels on manuals. It's silly to some people to use correct terminology, but it does show one's intelligence to a degree.
I rest my case so this can go back to OP problem.

OK This is Real Simple......take your front Strut off the car and lift off the upper control Arm, it is Not Bolted to the strut. Now go to your computer and Google "Pictures of Struts" and look at the picture and then look at what you have in your hand, they Look and Operate in the same was. You cannot compare a Front Wheel Drive car to a Rear wheel drive car, your comparing apples to oranges they are not the same cars and therefore the Struts are designed differently.
