Strut Mount Problems.

Last year, I decided to replace the struts. It was my first time doing any strut. I assembled them, installed them, and a couple weeks later, the center of the strut mount tore out. I figured I missed something.

I warrantied the parts, and took them to a shop for assembly, discouraged, but I figured they would do it "right". It looked just as it did when I assembled them. I drove the car through the summer, parked it, and begun driving at the beginning of June. It lasted a month, and the passenger side mount failed again.

This time, I did the assembly and install, so far so good, but I'm not sure if this will happen yet a third time. :icon_shrug:

O' Rileys warrantied the part again, so I have a new mount ready to replace if it fails again.

Is this a bad batch, or just a camaro bug, or is there some assembly procedure Im missing???

ETA. I forgot my password and had to enter through facebook. I cant change the password, because I need to enter the old one first. help.

check in the parts manual in the how to and faq sticky. should have a breakdown of the front so you can see if anything is missing. what shocks did you install? and ill get ahold of nj to get you your password.

I think they were Gabriel Shocks.

sounds like something is not tight, better go around the work done and check all the nuts and bolts you can to make sure they are not coming lose. next time get quality shocks. save your money and pick up some koni or bilsteins. stranoparts is a good place to look. the ride and handling of these cars are very dependent on the quality of the shocks.

A picture of your strut from the top would be good. Sometimes people forget to put all the parts back in and this will happen. I myself have never had a strut break thru.

4th Gens have shocks -- no struts. Take a couple photos of your fully assembled shock with spring and mount and post here and we'll tell you if you missed something.

Stick with OEM shock mounts -- all the aftermarket ones I have compared are sub-par, Moog included.
