Since its getting bored out anyway, nothing there that a trip to the hot tank won't take care of.
Are you going to deck the block or have it magnafluxed while it is apart and in the machine shop?
What are your plans for the cam? Going to stay with stock or go for a little more perf?

Magnafluxed yes, decking if it needs it. I plan on staying with a stock cam, she's my daily driver, I can't lose any more mpgs than I have already. I might have to replace it though, it looked like it had a little too much wear on it. But I'm not sure yet.

Since you already have it completely apart, seems like a waste to not put in a new cam. Even if you stay with the stock specs. You will probably regret not replacing it and the bearings.

everything is going to be mic'd and checked at the machine shop. all the bearings were junk, and the crank doesnt look the greatest. she'll be posting pics later. right now were debating to turn the crank ($175) or buy a new one, and the same idea for the cam. since it is a dd and the 3.8 isnt known for its stump pulling torque, the stock cam is going to be in there for now.

Pics from yesterday. The engine is completely torn down and is going to Pharro tomorrow. The crank is in bad shape, so it'll probably need to be replaced, but the cam seems to be fine, just might need some bigger bearings. Also, the piston ring is not busted. So maybe just some dirt got down in there? It's smooth, so I dunno.

A lot of what's left is up to Pharro and what they can do with it. I'm letting them get me the bearings and pistons (unless it's ridiculously expensive) and seeing what they can fix or can't fix. Not sure what pistons I'm going with because once again, it depends on what they can do.

Your crank doesn't look all that bad, from what the picture shows. You're going with a relatively stock rebuild. Unless you can get a new crank for the same $175 it would cost to grind yours, don't you think that would be a waste of money to spend more?

I was just about to comment on the same thing. The pics do not show catastrophic damage to the crank. I have seen far worse coming out of a SBC that only needed a light grinding to make good again.

Unless there is something there that the pics don't show, you may need nothing more than a grind. Heck, you may get real lucky and only need to clean it up a bit.

I would recommend all new bearings (which you already seem to be doing) and probably a new cam (stock grind) just to avoid the possibility of a lobe that is worn a bit more than others.

Yeah, the pic doesn't show the wear on the crank. It was hard to get a good angle on it. It's all getting checked out at Pharro, including the cam to see if it's usable/fixable.

there is a few deep grooves in the first crank journal and the same on the rod journals on 1 and 2. ive never done any machine work or seen it done, so i dont know what is able to be polished or ground away. right nows its a guessing game. being that this engine is a girl by nature, she is going the expensive route...

She's just being a typical woman. Demanding, temperamental, indecisive, and only wants the best things...which requires extra money. She learned from the best
