Default Socom's LT1 -> LS1 Swap Thread!

That's right boys and girls, I'm back at it again and once again swapping my motor out. I got a killer deal on a wrecked 2002 Trans Am LS1/T56 car with only 39k miles sooo The owner put the car on its roof and was lucky to walk away from the wreck with minor injuries. He was the original owner too. Just like my previous threads there will be lots to see and everything will be documented So sit back and enjoy as I do it all again!

We start out with my donor car which I picked up for a cool $2500. I've been working on parting it out to make back some cash and its almost paid for itself!

Sitting in the wreckers yard the day I got it:

At this point I'm in the process of removing the LT1/4l60e out of my car and prepping it for the swap. Once the LT1 is dropped I can modify my tunnel for the shifter hole as well as put the master cylinder in the firewall. I will also be installing Texas Speed 1-7/8" longtube headers before it goes in! And I'm trying to beat a hard deadline of next friday so stay tuned because its gonna get intense!

Look at Socom's Signature. Read "My old build thread" then read "My V8 swap". They are all the same car.

Socom, I was looking at the BTR trunion upgrade. You doing that to support future upgrades or do you get anything from just that upgrade? I am always looking for upgrades that done hurt MPG

$2500 is a great deal on a Ls1/T56 with those miles. Everything else is just freebies.

Looking to sell the rear? Does the monsoon have the input jack?

The LT1 was running great, I just got a great deal on the parts car so I figured why not. My lt1 was setup to run in the LTX Shootout street stock class, running a best of mid 12 at 110 mph bolt on only. My car is a 93 v6 shell converted to a 97 z28

Stock rockers like to spit out the uncaged needle bearings so I did the trunion upgrade for peace of mind, but I do plan on camming the car next year after the swap bugs are worked out. The rear is for sale Its a 4 channel 3.42 rear. The monsoon doesn't have an input jack on it I believe but I could probably solder one on there

4 channel is for a ASR car? So that is a bolt in for my 2000 Z with ASR. How much do you want for it? Need any GM parts I may have laying around

Yep 4 channel is a traction control/abs rear. Uhh what parts do you have laying around? But I'd do $250 disk to disk for a fellow member

Edit! Forgot to mention I got the lt1 and 4l60e out of the car tonight. Hopefully will have the LS1 in tomorrow!

Sorry to say most of the stuff I have is for the Lt1 you just pulled. I have my 96 3800 and my 93 lt1. I have 2 of everything on the Lt1 although one motor had a spun bearing. $250 is great price. Just can't do it right now.

Cam sure is a lot easier with the motor out. Not how I would do it but an interesting video.

BIG update today! Got the entire drivetrain in after a long day of work. It took some finesse but she finally decided to go in.

Pedals mounted up and master cylinder hole drilled in firewall.

Texas Speed headers on and looking pretty, along with some fresh NGK plugs and MSD wires.

Lifting the car sky high for one final time to slide the new motor in its final resting spot.

And she's in! So much more room up top than the lt1 and everything is much cleaner looking.
