DDRDiesel's 1997 RS project thread
Big things are happening! Over the past couple of days, I've been busy with the sanding and prep work on this kit, so I've only been able to get a few pictures for you guys.
Here's the front spoiler and the right side skirt:

I still have a LONG way to go with the front spoiler, as that piece needs the most amount of work. Needs to be sanded, Bondo'd. sanded again, and painted. Also, going to use Bondo to get this piece back on the right side skirt:

Hopefully it will be strong enough to hold it in place during mounting *Fingers crossed*
Here is the rear spoiler from the kit:

This one will just be sanded and PlastiDipped, as it incurred the least amount of damage and is in prime condition as-is.
And finally, the left side skirt after two full days of prep work and the first coat of PlastiDip:

I'm feeling really good about all this, and I can only hope it comes out half as good as I imagined it

Well, got laid off today, so it looks like I have plenty of time to get this finished...
When I got home, I wanted to get my mind off of everything, so I immediately went to work on the kit. Laid a final coat of PlastiDip on the left side skirt, waited for it to dry, and did a dry fit (No glues or screws, just let it hang on the retainer brackets). Looks pretty good, IMO. Also, finally got around to using the Bondo for the broken side skirt and to fill in some of the cracks on that piece. First time using Bondo, but I think I got the hang of it. Pretty simple once you get used to it. Also, reminds me of the paste dentists use for fillings/cement/whatever (Even smells similar, strange as it sounds). Now for some pictures:
I guess we'll take a look at the Bondo job first. Here's the first thing I tried as a test to see the strength of this stuff prior to sanding:

And here it is after sanding. Still a ways to go to get it flush with the side skirt:

I noticed more cracks and dings that needed to be filled/repaired, so I went ahead and did those as well:

I know it only takes about 10 minutes to dry, but I was exhausted at this point and I really wasn't in the mood to start sanding these down, so I'[ll get to it tomorrow. Now for the awesome part: The repaired and re-painted side skirt!
Here's the skirt after the third (and final!) coat of PlastiDip:

And here it is in place, only hanging by the retention brackets, not bolted on yet:

I have to say I'm pretty proud of where this is going, and I can't wait for this photoshoot to happen once I'm finished
(Don't worry, I'll be sure to post whatever pictures I can from the shoot with all the hot wimminzz all over the car)

Everything is finished and on the car! Took a while to get the right retention brackets for the right side skirt, and the biggest ones I could find still didn't stay in the holes, so I had to improvise with some caulk and a lot of imagination. Kit is holding on pretty solid, but I'm not about to go trying to rip it off as a "test" anytime soon.
The sanded and repaired front spoiler before PlastiDip:

And here's the kit back on the car, from all four angles:

And of course, what Camaro picture thread would be complete without an upskirt?

Also, I'm staying true to my word and I got some pics of the sway bar while the car was on the ramps today:

Now, not sure where to go from here. I'm not too savvy with engines and the sort, so tearing it apart and rebuilding is definitely going to wait until I have another car as a daily driver. I might just go ahead and throw some new sparkplugs in for now before I can think of any real improvements to do. Also looking for a new job still and finances are near the danger zone as it is

Glad you are keeping the kit....I think 4th gens look cool with them on. I gotta take mine off to refinish them as well. I think I like them better body color than the black they are now. Mine were chipped and scratched all to h3ll so I plastidipped them.
DDR, great job the kit came out great. Hey if you're interested check out the NorthEast regional section. There is a car meet down in Jersey 6/30/12(Chatter Box Drive In) hosted by NJFBOA that NJ posted. I'm going down and so far my buddy with his 68' Firebird is gonna take the trip with me he's going to see if his buddies wanna go too. PM me if you're interested.
So I'm finally taking the next steps on this project, and I have a few more cosmetic mods coming up. First one is the new wheel. I already have the short hub adapter and quick release from NRG, just debating on which wheel I should go with. Here are the two I'm currently looking at:
Newegg.com - NRG Steering Wheel ST-018R - 350mm Sport Black Leather w/ Red stitch Deep Dish 6 hole Steering Wheel. NR>G Innovations
Newegg.com - NRG Steering Wheel 320mm Race Sport Leather Red Stitch
I was originally thinking the $99 one, but then I laid eyes on the ST-018R and fell in love with it. Problem is, I'm not too sure of how it's going to look in the car once it's installed. Any thoughts?
P.S.: I know what you're thinking. "Why is he looking at steering wheels on Newegg?" Reason being because I was browsing and just decided to do a search in their marketplace on a whim. Summit doesn't sell NRG products, and Newegg sells NRG at a much lower price than the NRG site direct

Missed this earlier. Bondo is not a "structural" adhesive or patch, you should have glassed the cracks with an epoxy based resin.
Expect road vibrations to make the cracks reappear sooner or later.

I haven't had any issues with the bondo thus far, to be honest. Only problem I've had is when I was installing the front spoiler, the pillars came loose because I used too much force getting them in line and split the bondo. Other than that, been 100% solid everywhere else
I like the $99 steering wheel. I had a cheap one from eBay that had a very similar design and was the same size 320mm in my camaro when I had it and it looked great. I also personally loved the smaller wheel over the stock one, it had a great feel to it.
The other one is nice but I feel like it would look better in an older Camaro like maybe a 1st or 2nd gen.
Just my .02
