Default Can I fit a 383 stroker in a 94 or 96 Camaro RS?

I have bought 2 Camaros. 1 is a 94 RS with a 6 cylinder and a tranny that slips. The other is a 96 with same problems. I have always liked the power of a 383 stroker engine. Before I start buying parts to build my 383 I want any and all advise.

Flip the two cars you have and find one with a V8 already in it. You'll be steps ahead. To swap a V6 to V8 or even a V8 to a different V8 is A LOT of work and decreases the value of the vehicle. If you are dead set on going the 383 route but using the current vehicles you have, read through these threads.

After reading through those, if you still want to proceed, we will help guide you, but plan for a lot of money, time, and beer because it will not be an easy road. BTW, a 383 (at least by GM engines) is a 350 engine with a .030 over bore making it 4.030 with a 3.75 inch stroke. Compared to a 350s 4.000 in bore and 3.48 inch stroke.

Yes I am aware of the time and money and beer it will take. I choose the 383 because I knew it was just a rebuilt 350. I thought that would be easier than any other engine. I am very lucky so far and my wife is wanting this also. I will appreciate any and all help. Thank you

The 3.4 with a 165 HP at the crank and 3400 lb car are not real fun car to drive. The 3800 should be a full second faster in the 1/4 mile. Still not a fast car by any modern standard but the 200 HP at the crank is little closer. If you are going to cut one of them up for a 383 and make one a driver then fix the 3800 and cut up the 3.4 for your project. The 3800 even gets better fuel mileage.

Also many 3800 parts are still produced and many parts off the FWD version interchange including the whole engine. The 3.4 was only put in the Camaro and only 1993-95 so if you have an engine problem there is not a lot of option. If you decide on a used transmission for the 94 it needs to come from a 94 only I think the 96 will take any OBD11 trans 96-2002

His 94 is a V6 not a Z28 so he will need the V8 K frame in addition to all the other stuff.
