Default Aftermarket parts for my 96 maro lt1

what the best parts to start out with for my Camaro? Headers, intake, exhaust? What's a good cam? Quality parts but not to crazy price. If that's even realistic lol

You are going to need to do more research they are books that you can read and still you won't know everything about picking a cam. Asking "what is a good cam?" is like asking "what is good food?" Because most if not all of information I would need to pick a cam for you comes from you.

What is you Goal? (Please don't say the most power possible, it the biggest noob line in this context)
What do you have?( all current mods, rear, trans specs. tires)
What other supporting molds are you willing to make at the same time?
How will the car tuned after the fact?

Fuel injection engines need to be tuned after they are modified.

Here are your options for not screwing this up.

(1)Find and talk to a tuner. If he knows LT1s he will tell you what Cam need what supporting mods and what to expect from that Cam/tune. If you want to do a mail order tune call them and ask what they recommend.

(2)Call the Cam manufacture, the only problem with this is you need realistic goals and they will push their products.

(3) Find a build thread that has been completed with acceptable results. When you are working on a budget tried and true is way more effective then blasting a new path. Sorry to say we do not have many build threads on this site. If you look for a LT1 focused forum you should fine decades worth of build threads.

Keep in mind with Cam changes you are giving something up to get something else. Lets say you get you car up to 450hp at 5600 RPMs. The cost of that may be 40% of you torque at 2200 RPMs. Meaning you have less cruising power then a v6. Just to pass a car you will need to run up to 4000 RPMs when before you could have done it a 2500. This makes for a fine race car but sucks as a daily driver.

21 yr old car, if its new to you check all safety systems, brakes, steering (tie rod ends, bushings, etc), change all fluids. then go to suspension, shock quality will dictate ride quality. dont skimp on em. koni makes a good hyway shock at good price. sway bar upgrade is a very good improvement, rear control arms can be sloppy so keep that in mind.

on to engine, cold air intake can give you a couple hp, good flowing cat back to your liking. headers would be next. these are for the most part the standard bolt on's for lt1. like gorn says once get it tuned. that can be your biggest gain.
