Default Turn signal don't turn off after turning

Turn signal never turn off after turning, its the same on both sides and was so when I got the car.

Is the Turn Signal Switch known to break? and if so, how hard is it to replace?

Steering wheel will need to come off but does the column need to be disassembled too?

I am in the process of ordering several parts and as I'm in Europe shopping in the US, I try to get all I need in one shipment, at the same time I like to avoid spending money on unneeded parts but don't have the possibility to take these things apart right now, so it comes down to likelihood and that's were I need your input and experience...

Default

Found a good video for the replacement procedure (on a 97)

Not an easy job but not impossible either, requires special tools for getting the steering wheel and lock plate off, and a bit of a hassle to route the harness

And regarding my issue, my guess is broken cancelling cams or loose /missing springs, but still curios in case someone has experience to share on the topic
