Default newer model factory head unit in my 96?

just wondering if a newer unit would plug and play install in my 96. i know the mounting brackets on GM radios changed at some point but not sure which year. if i could grab a 2000 or so radio from the yard to replace my crap aftermarket unit without any harness changes etc, that would be great!

also looking for a good write up on taking apart the dash. any links would be greatly appreciated

use photo bucket for pictures, works pretty good. open free account, download pictures, copy IMG code onto your post and picture shows. keep picture size to 680 or less on the big side.

no harness swap, literally just plugged right in, formed my own brackets and everything was perfect
