Default Door striker ?

I've owned my 94 z28 for 15 years, but just yesterday I noticed an empty hole above the latch on both driver and passenger doors. The body does have the striker post but nothing on the door. What is missing?

that's for the support post to go into. its meant to support the weight of the door when closed.

That is a support. It also acts as a guide pin as the door pins wear out over the years. Camaros have always had bigger doors so chevy implemented that to aid opening / shutting when the pins wear.
