Default Dash panel...

Hello all =)
After a bit of effort, I have returned under a new profile, never was able to log in again under the one I created years ago, so, though it may appear, I am not a newbie.
To the question-
Years ago under the suggestion of this forum I purchased a new dash panel from GM parts direct (approx. 2007) Well, the thing has cracked only 4 years later. To my horror the price has doubled everywhere I look. (Paid about 120.00 shipped back then) Does anyone have a good source for a new dash panel for a 1996 RS dash panel? I need that, and a consol box. Dash Panel comes first.
Great to be back, and thanks for any help you guys can give =)

Rich

Nope, ebay or dealer, and maybe some other internet places. Cheapest I have found is 250 plus 35 to ship on ebay. Dealer is close to 300. I tried to fix mine with fiberglass repair and a vinyl overlay. Turned out good but after a few days in the sun it bubbled horribly. I will be biting the bullet and spending the required cash for a new one. Shame no one has discovered that making these aftermarket could make someone some money!

I just got one from a junk yard a few weeks ago for 30$. I found the front clips come out easy then I use a very long screw driver to get the rear velcro things off. I have benn lucky I have taken 3 out and never broke one yet. I would say its worth a shot to try and find one at a junk yard. Just go slow take your time and you should be able to get it out in one piece. What's the worst that could happen if you break it oh well lol.

My biggest fear is pretty much buying someone else's brittle dash pad and having it crack after installing it in mine.

Had a 96 show up art the local pull a part. I'm on their notification system so I got a call from them as soon as it showed up. I get there and find it has a perfect dash! No cracks anywhere. I start lifting it up. Taking my time, being real careful. Get the front loose. I'm thinking GREAT!! I got this! I lift it up about 2 inches to get something under it to start pulling it out and CRACK....the d@ng thing breaks in half on me.
