97 Body Control Module

97 Body Control Module
Lost interior lighting about 4 years ago. Lately, turn signal and cooling fan failed so off to the dealer I go. For a mere $500 they fixed the turn signal by jumping around the circuit and replaced all 3 cooling fan relays. For another $500 (I'm not kidding) they offered to replace the BCM and fix the interior lighting.
Anyone out there with suggestions? After reviewing wiring and schematics, I guessed the control module was suspect but have no idea where it is located on the vehicle or where I could affordably purchase one.
The good news is this, I am about to broach 250,000 miles without a major engine problem. I have had this ride for nearly 15 years and plan to keep it longer.
All suggestions appreciated.

It's possible those links to the repair of the BCM could help, but I doubt it in this case. The interior lamps are not on the RAP circuit which is the main weakness of the module.
I would check first the Interior lamp switch to make sure it is switching to ground when operated. The gray wire should read 12v (or 5v, I forget) when off and 0v when on.
If that is ok, then the BCM could be at fault if none of these work in any circumstance: map lights, dome light, glovebox light, and console compartment light. If any of those work, there is no problem with the BCM.
If the BCM is at fault, you could rewire the circuit (3 wires) to be like the 94/95 car which has no BCM. Let me know if you have any interest in doing that as it is not trivial.
