Z28 with V6 engine
Ok everyone Im new here but have a rather interesting Camaro on my hands. Ok so a little bit of a back story. I received this car upon my dads death an had it about 3 month. So the check engine light came on an had it check an it's the cats no big deal going to replace them. But when I went to the dealer an had them run my vin to make sure there were no recalls on this. There wasn't but on the vehicle build its come up as a Z28 with a factor V6. Weird as heck because there are usually the LS1. I was talking to the service manger an he said it had be someone who ordered it that way. My question to you all is do you think this is a "Unique" car or just a messed up turd car? Should it be worth more if I decided to sell since this could be Potentially " one of a kind"? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. It's also has 100,800 miles automatic with T-tops an 6 disc cd changer as well cloth seats in pretty much mint condition.
Are you saying the build info states it's a V6 equipped Z28, or that it says it's a Z28 but your car now has a V6 in it? Someone ordering a Z28, then wanting a V6 engine in it makes no sense, as a V8 is what makes it a Z28 for the most part. Also doesn't make sense that GM would even do that.
Yes the build states its a factory v6 Z28. The service manger said either someone wanted it like that or it's a "mess up" that they sold anyways. An I don't understand why GM would do that either. This weekend I'm going to get the vehicle build from the dealership an post it here. We triple checked the vin. An my first throught was shoot someone blew the engine an put a v6. I even bought a car fax an everything checks out on it. Here is the vin so if anyone had the unlimited car fax or whatever site they can see as well.

But like I said I want as much info as possible one this. So I can decide where to go from here. I'll also post a picture of the vin if need be so everyone don't think I'm just a retard about camaros.

vin shows it as a standard v6 coupe. do like everett says and check the rpo codes, look at 8 and 9 here https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...o-specs-71052/
A Z28 could only be fitted with a V8, you could not custom order with sixxer.
Since the sticker and the VIN do not show a Z28 code, I am going to say this is either human error on part of the service manager OR a error in their system.

my buddy has a v6 car with factory dual exhaust and some other z28'ish type stuff and its a goofy code deal also. I'll ask him what it is tomorrow and check back. I'm betting its something along those lines

The difference between a Y87 V6 and Z28 is the V8 engines. The forms used to order these cars are very straight forward. Crazy combination where not possible to order. You could not order a V8 in a base coupe and you could not order a V6 in a Z. As stated above this is most likely a clerical error. Someone at some point hit the wrong keys on their key board.
I worked at the Chevy dealers for 6 years. Heck it could have shown up with Z28 badges and paper work that said it was a z28 without the Z28 engine its not a factory Z. Those are the cars that get returned. One time we had a Chevy truck show up with a GMC door, fender and side molding on one side of the truck. Tail gate said GMC and the grill had the Chevy badge. It was pretty rare for a whole month to go by without seeing some kind of mistake out of the factory. I can even remember RPO codes being wrong. RPO called for standard brakes but it had tow package on it.
