Default z28 rearend swap

I'm going to eventually swap the rear end in my 95 3.4 to a z28 rear end and wanted to know which years will be a direct swap. I know that some z28s have extra sensors due to traction control but I'm not sure. Any help is welcome

Any year from 1993-2002. Your going to want a 3 channel rear end because you don't have traction control. It'll have a sensor on top of the diff body.

you can pretty much bolt up any camaro/firebird rear end you want. the brakes might be different...if you don't have the traction control on your car, you simply won't make the connections. check the sticky for gear ratios.

Ya but he needs the speed sensor that's in the rear diff. Any rear end will bolt up to a gen 3 but not a gen 4. I know this as I did a few days of research before I bought my rear end.

Also be careful about gear ratios. I was told that if you get a rear end with different gears, you have to have that tuned into your computer. Good Luck.

Yes you have to get It tuned. Cars from 93-96 can't be tuned gm might be able to but I'm not positive. I went through pcmforless.com to get my tune. They just shipped me a new PCM with my new gear ratio tuned on it. They also tune your car for you so if you have mods you get more out of the engine.

OK you got some good and some bad info regarding the swap. Lemme set this right here.

You can use any year rear end but you need to keep it non traction control rear end. You can tell this by the brake lines or the sensor location. The compatable rear ends will have only one hydraulic line and the sensor will be on the center carrier.

A diff from a TC equipped car will have 2 hydraulic lines and 2 sensors near the brakes.

There is also 2 different rear disk brake setups. The most compatable is the 93-97 where the caliper is also the parking brake mech. This uses the same cables as the drum brake setup. The 98-02 have shoes in the rotor that are for the parking brake. This setup has different calipers and cables. Either will work just fine but the earlier ones will require less to make it all happen.

Gear ratios very from car to car you will need to check the car's Vin or RPO for the ratio it came with. No guarentee that is the same as you are getting. You will need to have your computer tuned to the new gear ratio for the trans and engine mapping to function correctly. Computers from 94 on can be programed. Do not "chip" them the chips on 94+ computers are just a gimic to get some one some money and you lose out. Not all shops can program the 94-95 computers so call around or use PCM4Less for the tune.

You dont need a tune only if you want your speedo to read properly.
