Default z28 problems?

As promised the question in the correct section of the forum... I think. Haha

I am looking at purchasing a '95 Z28 camaro. I think it is a pretty sound car. Straight lines, clean interior. For all that I did come across a problem or two. Im hoping its an easy fix, and hoping thats what I will be hearing. What I know of the problem is that when the car "warms up" it has a tendancy to just up and die. Cuts right out regardless of rpm. If you pull over and let the car sit for 5 minutes or so you can start her right up and keep moving. Now I dont know much about these cars and any problems that might be common but I was told it could be an o2 sensor, or the distributor module. Any helpful thoughts? Is this an indication of greater problems? Is this a good car for the price asked of 3000?

Thanks for your thoughts

Im new to this but i had the same issue with my 97 z28. It would die and i would have to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes before it would start again. it took 2 weeks to find my issue and it was my water pump leaking on my distributer. I dont know if our cars have the same waterpump on top of the distributer set up.

Any 93-97 Camaro is going to have the same physical locations, so the water pump always sits above the Opti (distributor). It's a known issue that when the Opti gets wet, it dies, so this very well could be your issue.

well it wasnt with a camaro but i had a known issue for that with older cars is when your car gets hot and starts to emit a lot of heat it can make your coil really hot and it stops putting out spark. but then with the z28 it could easily be an opti problem, but id definately lean towards and ignition problem

Sorry it took so long to get back. Ive been trying to hunt up codes, but its a 95, and has the OBD2 port while utilizing the OBD1 codes. So I dont know if its throwing a code. No check engine light, tho when it stalls it throws the check gauges alert. Not overheating that I can tell, the fans and all that work and it only reads to the lower 1/4 hash mark. And it runs fine when I get up to speed, and only seems to bog down and eventually die when at idle. When this happens I throttle up and it labors, wanting to cut out, but more often than not it pulls through and I dont have problems till I am sitting at idle again. Any ideas?

Also when struggling in idle, the lights flicker. Just in case thats an indication to your diagnosis. Fuel filter was just replaced. Spark, air ratio, or fuel pump perhaps?

Sorry I missed your post Reggie, It has around 95000 miles and is not all stock, tho no major changes. Engine wise all I know of is upgrading the air intake from the original to an aluminum Holly throttle body and intake pipes. Tranny has a shift kit tho I dont know the specs. Suspension is the only other. I couldnt get a reader but found this set up by Datamaster where I can monitor the PCM and thankfully read any codes its throwing. All clean, no codes.
