Default Worth it?

OK, as you guys know, I am looking for an LT1 to pop into my truck. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123 But he doesn't have any accessories for it, not the pulleys or balancer, etc. SO, is it worth it? I know it's rebuilt but I'm not entirely sure how much the accessories will cost, thought the whole motor only adds up to $600-$700 'round here. It IS rebuilt and has aluminum heads on it, so I'm reallly tempted... LT1 guys to the rescue!

*shrugs*

Seems pretty legit to me, the hardest part is going to be finding all the sensors that you need, but if you have a junkyard that's local to you it could be possible to find them there. You should be able to get most of your accessories off an LT1 Impalla or Caprice.

No, the LT1 that came in the Impala and Caprice had cast iron heads and a smaller cam. The heads didn't flow quite as well and the cam was geared towards low end torque rather than more top end power.

Any time someone has claimed to have a rebuilt engine, and that they had it rebuilt, I ask to see the receipts. I know the price is low. Did you also see the comm ent about low oil pressure? It seems you'll be tearing the engine down any way if you get it. If it were me. I'd budget in a complete rebuild. If that means the project takes 6-12 months longer, it's worth it to give you peace of mind.

yeah that doesnt sound right to be rebuilt and have a low oil pressure at idle, low oil pressure doesnt mean a good thing but why would he mention that.If you do end up getting it, you can head over to LTXTech.com, people always have stock parts and stuff you could use.

I haven't looked at the posting in a couple days, I didn't notice the low oil pressure... My dad's confusing me like nuts tho, he's offering to buy heads for the 383 build I was going to do so I can go through with THAT. I think the problem is he's not used to fuel injection and he's kinda afraid of it because he doesn't understand it. I'd love to go through with my 383, especialy if he'll pay for the rest of it, but I'd love an LT1 too... The difference is I already HAVE the bottom end of the 383 together, as well as a block, he's willing to pay for the heads and machine work I think he said... I'd be putting TPI on it, so still EFI, but not so good of EFI as the LT1 would have on it, and I'd love to have the higher end HP that the LT1 has instead of dropping off after 3000rpm. DESICISIONS!!! GAH!!!

OK, here we go, what do you guys think of this one, from a local salvage yard:
LT1, with all accessories, ECU, wiring harness, and transmission, less than 100,000 miles, for $1450. Only ONE frikin place had one of these things, this guy has never let me down before... He said he'd include anything else I would need, like the fusebox and little things like that in the deal as well. Worth it?

The price is a little higher, but if you can trust this guy and it includes all the accessories, and an LT1 is actually what you want I would say it's a fair price. Seems less sketchy than the guy on Ebay.

rent a u-haul tow bar and get the whole enchillada for the same $$$. Then you'll have other parts you can sell

drive a little ........save a lot.....

if you don't like going southeast, then go west young man

Why buy a junker engine for $1500 that needs to be rebuilt when, as capt Quint said, you'll get the head, tail, the whole thing.
