Default won't start, no security light, jump box on it, wtf!

First of all... 1999 Chevrolet Camaro, 3.8l V6, Automatic, over 100k,

So i jump in my car today and fire it up, drive it around than park it, lock it with keyless entry.

Come back to the car five minutes later and use the unlock key fob, doors unlock, go to start the vehicle and nothing, no crank, just lights on the dash like i'm in the ON position.

Figure must be security issue, because I have juice, and I just drove the car and have gas.

Does anyone know what disables the alarm? Either from the key or the key fob? I don't know why this would happen.

When I turn the key to the On postion i see just lights, the security light is lit, but there isn't any flashing or anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the unlock should disable the security... try disconnecting your battery for 5 min and see if that helps

I had that happen only a couple of times out of the blue with my old 4th gen. Let the car sit with the key off for five minutes or so for the security to clear itself, then it would start. Could be crud on the key, or on the reader in the ignition, moisture from temperature changes, dog barked at the moon, etc.

UGH, POS GM Passlock, ive had the same problem on a caddy and a pontiac....

lol so, what if I want to disable completely do I really have to get the program module or have my computer relearned?

On the caddy I had (91) I used the resistor trick and that worked perfect. But this is a 99 so....

There are write-ups for doing a resistor bypass. This is another option to do away with the passkey altogether: https://camaroforums.com/forum/techn...-delete-63327/

Also had this happen, only once though. Random fluke of an event. Security light on, good power, no start. I wiped the key off, adjusted the steering column up/down a few times and tried again and BOOM started right up. Sometimes it's just a situation where it isn't reading right and the key is dirty or something may have loose wiring, idk but messing with it for a few worked for me and it hasn't happened since. Finicky little things.
