Default Why to buy?

Hi I am new to the forum and I am looking for a 98-02 Camaro. I just sold my 2005 Mustang GT so I don't know a whole lot about these cars.
My questions are as follows

1: Do the 01-02 Camaros have more hp the 98-01? and if so why?

2: Did the 01-02 come with Ls6 engines (I have seen on ebay where they said the car had a Ls6 block vs. Ls1)? And if so should I be looking for a Ls6 Camaro? What is diffent between the Ls6 and Ls1?

3: Whats the difference between a Z28 and a SS? Is the SS really have more hp than a Z28 or was just hype?

Sorry for all the questions just trying to learn.

i know the 4th gen cars had a lt1 a lt4 and a ls1. the ls6 block was used on a few in 01 and 02. the ls has more hp than the lt. design mostly does it. diffferent intake, heads and exhaust i think.

01-02 camaros came with ls6 intakes and many wear factory freaks that produced about 30 more hp that others, no camaros that i know have come with ls6, z28 and ss are about the same but ss come with different hoods and spoilers not much hp difference

first of all congrats on ditching the stang hahah...but ss and z28 are basically the same hp wise.. the ss has a bit better suspension i believe. also some had an ls6 block supposedly but the 98 - 02 are all basically the same...

The LS1 and the LS6 share a block, so they both have LS6 blocks...or do they both have LS1 blocks? The LS6 differs from the LS1 in it's heads, cam and intake manifold (among other small things), but the blocks are identical. The 2001-2002 Camaros had the LS6 intake manifold, which does flow better than the LS1. That manifold is pretty easy to swap out, so I wouldn't let that hold you back from buying a 98-00. As stated above, the SS package is mostly a visual package. It did come with a slightly better suspension, but nothing that makes much of a difference. That said, SLP offered many many different options with the SS that could be purchased, but did not come standard. The only way to know what options any certain car has is to get the VIN number and check it with SLP.

Thanks for all the info. It looks like I can look a 98-00 camaros also and still get the same performance of a like a 01-02.
