White Smoke when Heat ON (Coolant burn?)
Hey yall. today driving down the highway my car started to smell like anti-freeze was burning. What do you know white smoke starts to billow out of my vents (had the heat on). I pulled over, my car leaked coolant everywhere, heater hose blew off. I re-attached it and clamped it on. Refilled with 50/50 (good thing i had some in car) and went on my way. When i turned my heat back on white smoke came out again. I quickly turned it off and it went away. Car was SEMI-Over heating, not really really bad. Also noticed coolant puddle in my passenger side under the dash in carpet. Im guessing thats my heating core. So, it it shot?

Sounds like it could be. Which hose came off? If it was one of the hoses going through the firewall, it could have sprayed some coolant on the firewall allowing it to seep into the car but the way you describe it, it sure sounds like the core needs replacing. have you had overheating issues prior or did it just need the air bleed out of it after putting in more coolant?

lol. sorry,,, your heater core is shot. you can unhook both heater hoses from the water pump and run a piece of hose from one outlet to other on the pump. refill and blead. then you will still have a ride till you get a new core in, no heat though.

What engine? How many miles?
It sure sounds like the heater core is shot. Fortunately (and miraculously) the heater core on a 4th Gen is easy to replace. Really!
What concerns me more is that the heater core may have been the weak link in your cars cooling system. If you have had overheating issues before there could be bigger problems that caused the heater core to blow. When you replace it (or bypass it) the next weak link could go. :-(
I'm not even gonna *say* what I'm thinking...
