Where is a good place to buy a new engine?
My car overheated, and the engine is done.
Can anyone recommend a place to buy a new engine?
I have a 2002 base v6. Or are new ones even available?
And I did try the search function. I realize it would likely be more cost effective to buy a new car, but I am emotionally attached to my car (aren't we all?).

get a series 2 or 3 3800 out of the junkyard (FWD will work too with a couple pieces of your existing engine)
theres a sticky somewhere ill try to find it
(brand new 3800s are a couple thousand dollars a used engine should be nothing more than 500$)

I think GM discontinued the Series 2 motor about 3 years ago. Are you planning on doing the work yourself or at a garage. If your letting a garage do it you should talk to them. Most full service garages have a engine remanufacture they like to use. If you supply a engine to a garage they will only warranty the install labor but if you get the motor from them and they install it then just about everything should be covered.
If you are thinking of doing it yourself then what Basic said, go for a low miles newer series 3 motor per the sticky in the V6 section. You can pick on the link in my sig "project 96 to get and idea what your in for.

agree pick up a series 3, 3.8 either a new one or low miles used one, gain of 20 or so hp over the series 2. you will need to use everything off your old motor above and below the block and heads like oil pan, intake manifold, tb, sensors. you can use front wheel drive block and heads as well.

Any GM 3800 1995 and newer is a Series2 until it was replaced with the Series3. 1995 was the first year for the 3800 in the Camaro. So that means all Camaro 3800s orginally had a S2 motor.
GM did put a 3.8 in the later 2nd gens (78-81 I think) but 3.8 or 3800 never found its way back into the Camaro until 1995. Now the Firebird is another story
