Default what oil to use??

hi everyone,
as stated in a previous thread i wrote in,i just bought a 95 camaro z28 with the 350 stroked to a 383, i dont have any history on the car,i went to change the oil today and noticed that it had a mobil one oil filter on it,the previous owner is unavailable to ask any questions, so im wondering do i have to stay with mobil one oil and filter since i have no history on the car? or can i go with a fram filter and regular oil like castrol ?? thanks everyone

I would go with something like Royal Purple or AmsOil if I had a stoker motor.

yeah you can use whatever synthetic oil and filter you want, but if it really worries you, you can take it to a shop or a dealer and get an engine flush. and give them the exact oil and filter you want to use

you could drain it and check or maybe get enough on the dipstick to check if its regular or synthetic.

Going from regular to synthetic is no big deal. The engine should be running synthetic.

GM recommended synthetic for the LT1, and the Vettes came with Mobil 1 from the factory. Switching back and forth won't hurt a thing, as synthetics are compatible with conventional.
There are bad filters, ok filters, and good filters to use. The Fram orange one has a poor bypass design that can fail, so avoid that one like the plague. Fram TG's design and filtering is fine, as is the AC Delco/STP filter, as well as some other name brands.
