Default What is the noise im hearing?

I just bought a 95 camaro z28 6 speed. It makes some kind of rattling noise when im letting out of the clutch from sitting still, then it still makes the sound when im cruising 1-10 mph, but when i give it some gas everything is fine. My clutch slips bad in 4th,5th,and 6th.
so im guessing the noise might be coming from the clutch or something maybe??

i would get the car in the air and get someone under it and see if they can hear it as you let the clutch out

I think that's a pretty good guess that the noise may be related to your badly slipping clutch. You're probably hearing clutch chatter, or the clutch disc rivets riding on the pressure plate or flywheel. Regardless, sounds like you need a clutch job.

i do know if this helps, but i'm having a similar noise. i drive a 98 base model, with an automatic trans. it usually goes away once the car has heated up though, but when i first start it, at low speeds it makes a rattle sound.

Here's another thought about the rattling, unrelated to your clutch. With the engine off, reach under the car and hit your cat converter with your hand a few times. Listen if it sounds like there are rocks in there. If it does, it's broken up inside and needs to be replaced, or dropped and emptied out (if your car no longer requires emissions testing).

Don't put 4.10 gears in your 10 bolt. The ring gear of these differentials is only 7.5 inches and WILL break so I wouldn't change a thing. You need to fab or purchase an 8.8, 9 inch, or 12 bolt first, especially with a hard launching 6 speed. A stock LT1 is enough to break the factory rear.

Secondly, is this a daily driver? Aftermarket clutch kits are going to be made from materials you wouldn't want to use on the street. I have a friend with a 95 Z28 M6 who recently installed a Spec Stage 1 clutch (kevlar disc kit for $400). The chatter is so nasty that he now needs a new transmission mount. In comparison, the organic OEM clutch disc ($200 kit) has a much smoother engagement but can't take a beating on the strip. You either get streetability or performance with single disc kits. If you want a good combination of both you'll have to save up for a Street Twin ($800 and beyond).
