Default Locking Device

I've seen locking devices for 7.5 GM rear ends on Flea Bay that you just bolt in to dog leg rear ends thus creating a 'Locker' diff. Don't know how sturdy these are but they're not high finance-i.e. less than 100 dollars.

Your friend is retarded. If you had a beater truck that you only drove to and from the trail then yeah i could see it. But on a street car very very bad idea. Its going to wear your tires out 10 times faster, make horrible sounds every time you go around a corner, and there is a good chance the welds could fail resulting in broken peaces of metal destroying your diff if the welding job doesn't do it first. You can pick up a LSD 10 bolt for like 300-500 bucks man that would be the best way to go on a budget and with the 3.4 you can get away with a 10 bolt all day long.

The only place that is beneficial to weld is right outside the housing and the axel stem out. The joint there is only pressed in so by welding it you reduce strain on the axel. Welding your carrier is only good if you plan on racing your car down the strip, drifting or dirt track racing. Anything else you'll blow that thing apart fast.

Your friend is an idiot. Period.

You WILL break axles when running a welded diff on the street.

You really would end up with a ill handling car. Very unstable and horrid in the rain. It is not a question of if it will break, it's a question of when. Don't do it. It would be a waste of your time, money and a rear end.

I most likely will do it when I find a nice Z rear end to swap into it just tp see what its like. But honestly virtually all the 240's at the school up here have welded diffs and they drive them daily all the time. i don't know what it is but I haven't heard any horror stories from them

its because a 240 is a 4 cyl light car with strong rear ends, you drive a heavy 6 cyl and its rear end is about the same. the part they wont tell you is that if you weld the diff on a 240 you can get a new rear for about a 3rd of the cost of yours. also im sure that you know 240's usually wind up as mutts. parts from all sorts of cars wind up under the hood... is that what you want from your car?
