Default Weird E-brake issue

So it's only happened twice so far. Whenever I park, I always engage the parking brake. It's been a habit for years on my cars. It happened once like a month ago and it happened again tonight. I went to park and lifted up on the brake. But instead of stopping where it should, it felt like it 'broke,' lost all the tension on it, and flew all the way up and stayed there. The brake light goes off when it's vertical, but then I go to put it back down and the light comes back on and it goes down all the way and it will lift back up perfectly and will click and stop where it's suppose to. It still functions fine, I've tested it after this weird thing happened and it still engages. It's almost like it's popping out or off of whatever is holding it together. Any ideas?

could be the auto adjust is acting up. try an cycle/pull the parking brake lever a few times and see if that helps.

My e-brake did this too. Once a month or so this would happen. What it is, is the cable kind of wraps around the handle assembly and it will get loose from there every once in awhile. I took my console out and it did it once so I could see what was going on. Some electrical tape to hold the cable in that groove will do the trick!

Hm, not sure I'm going to tear my console apart, but as long as it's not actually hurting anything, I guess I won't worry about it.

Chaotic is right with this, there's a cam at the bottom of the e-brake with a groove in it to hold the cable, sometimes the cable will get out of this channel and slide up around the cam. This is usually when you need a new cable because it's getting loose.

Hm, I think that's what Case thought, almost time for a new cable. You know how difficult it is to replace? It only just started doing this and last night was only the second time it's happened.
