Weak heat
Would having a 160 thermostat and it being really cold outside make it so my heat only gets like luke warm... I used to have great heat just put the thermo in and cant think of another reason its weak now...
Andalso might be a dumb question butcould my car notrunning at its normal temp cause it to run richer?

RE: Weak heat
AV95Z, to answer your question, yes the thermostat is your problem. Let's look at it logically...you removed a195 degree thermostat and put in a 160? That's a drop of 35 degrees, do you think you'll feel the difference? You bet. When the engine warms up and reaches 160, the stat opens and cooler water from the radiator rushes in. In the severe cold, the coolant in the radiator will get chilled fairly quickly and the engine temp won't vary much from the 160 mark. Not to mention that the engine temp will actually dropbelow 160 when the cooler coolant from the radiatorenters the engine. So actually, in the winter you won't even have a steady supply of 160 degree water available foryour heat. The 160 stat comes into play better in the summer when the cooling system is less capableto keep the engine as cool. And as already answered, yourcomputer will be getting a signal that the engine is not up to normal running temp, which is richening up the fuel mixture.
