I have done it several times. Never had an issue, I use a pressure washer, and don't spend a lot of time blasting away, just get in and out so to speak. Never had a problem. If you have a serious mess though, you would want to look into preventative measures. I am not real sure, but would imagine not flooding out your fuse box would be a priority, electronics should be avoided.

ok i've done this several times and have had the bad outomes too. Make sure no water can get into your air filter, or any electronics such as fuse box and the like. Best way to do that is to tape a plastic grocery bag around the two. Then I would reccomend washing the motor cold, and running if it's just a quick rinse. For a deep clean I suggest doing it in the dreveway with engine degreaser. It can be picked up for under $10 in any auto parts store. JUst make sure you have time for the motor to dry completely before driving it so any water that gets into the electronics can dry out. I've had my cars not start after washing them for whatever reason, so follow this advice and you should be ok.

I always try to keep my motors clean, so I have never really had one that was that bad. At least until my current project, that motor is dirty, but I will worry about that when the time comes it is going to be a rebuild.

Obviously avoid those things that need avoiding, like an air filter, or the fuse box, using a grocery bag as was said is a great idea. I have never used engine degreaser, and if I were to, I would personally do it at a car wash and fill up their triple basin, rather than having the stuff running down the gutter into the storm sewer.

Now, you can just keep up with it, and avoid all of the long blasting sessions. That is what I do with my cars.
