The LS1 coil conversion isn't a fix for the opti, if the optical reader is the problem. If it's a mechanical problem with the opti (cap & rotor contacts) then the conversion will help since that part of the opti wouldn't be used.

oh i see, well it was a though. I dont know much about them i have just head of it. Still might be worth reading into

yeah you'd still need a properly functioning opti to do the coil conversion.

so your car is backfiring occasionally? i'd be looking at the opti myself

changing the tranny does not really need a professional, i did it and had NO idea what i was doing on a Chevy Suburban. i rented a Tranny-Jack from a local store and all we used was rachet with extenders and universals. with an off-roading suburban u find alot of rust so im sure yours will be easier. it is time consuming and a little daunting, however its a good way to save u 1-2 grand
