My father is fairly against the idea of scrap digging at a junk yard at this point.

It is a fair point that most of these were run hard, though not as hard as mine has been. He's more inclined to buy a refurbished/remanufactured entire rear end and have it shipped in.

We also haven't looked around yet at yards to see what's available. We're probably just going to dump cash into it and replace the panhard and LCA's with machined nonadjustable ones while we're there. I might drop a single adjustable pan hard bar in place, and leave the lower control arms nonadjustable.

Right now though, we need to seal the t-tops first so we can leave it out of the garage, then figure out the rear end. Both me and dad would prefer to build up the rear we have in it, if possible, because we could beef it up with that little $500 guide to prevent any future issues. My car will not see a turbo or super charger kit in its life, nor any kind of nitrous, so I'm not looking for a ford 9" or anything that's far and above my needs.
The only 'mod' this will see in it's far (far)b distant future is either an SLP or volant cold air intake setup and an SLP lid.

-edit-

I'm more for trying the junkyard, because that's going to hurt my wallet less than this car potentially could.

Talking about junk yard hunting... What years can I pull from?

From my understanding, the 98 is the oldest year I can go back that has asr and it comes with the auburn differential, while 99-02 has asr, but the torsion differential, which is reportedly weaker apparently over the auburn unit.

Gotcha. So 96-98.

That cuts my options a bit, but three years are better than one.

Now, if I happen to have a spun bearing inside the housing, is that salvageable?
