My Camaro has still failed to start... It cranks over, just doesn't start. What have I replaced/tested? Ignition coils, ignition module, cables, spark plugs, camshaft position sensor and I had the crankshaft position sensor replaced about 3 months ago or so... Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for spark plugs for my Camaro? I ****ed the order up but that shouldnt prevent it from starting right? Btw, starter fluid doesnt even start it up. Its a 96, V6 3.8L.

Update: Problem was the CKS, got it fixed and cranked right up. Did a full tune up, oil change, drove nice then randomly shut off while driving again... Its the SAME symptoms as before.

I scan for codes and nothing comes up, when the key is on the "on" position it says SES but I scan for codes and nothing comes up. Any ideas? I DID have codes at one point but I cleared it and now they wont come back up, I didnt have anything major but an EGR. Like I said in my last couple post, I was driving the car and then it shut off at, no loud sound, just simply quiet... Im running out of ideas.

 

Is your fuel pressure good?

 

doesnt try to start with starting fluid. did you check your ignition fuse?

 

The firing order for a 1998 Chevy Camaro with a 3800 Series II V6 enigine is: 1-4-5-2-6-3 on the Coli Packs starting from the inside firewall. The firing order off the block is: 1-3-5-2-4-6. Start this from standing in front of the vehicle looking at the motor. Driver side front: 1; Middle: 3, and Back: 5. Passenger side front: 2; Middle: 4; and rear is 6.

 

My fuel pump primes, I also checked the pressure at that thing that looks like a tire pressure release and gas comes out. I am assuming I am getting gas to the engine, the FPR doesnt have gas in the line. But even if... Starter fluid should at least make it start for a couple of seconds then die, thats why I believe I have no spark. And thanks for the diagram!

 

pull a plug ground it and have someone turn it over to make sure your getting spark. pick up a niod light for your injectors and make sure the injectors are being told to fire. check ignition fuse and injector fuses. should be in the under hood/engine compartment fuse box.

 

What are other options to check out that could prevent the ignition system from working?

Edit: I checked the fuses and they look good, I even swapped them around with other fuses. Still no luck, Ive tested the spark plugs this way already and there wasnt any spark... Is the starter fluid test efficient too?

 

OK the ignition system in these cars is really simple as far as diagnostics go. There are 3 main components, Crank Sensor, Ignition Control Module, and 3 Coils. If you didnt get the plugs on the right coils then yes you will not be able to run. The driver's side has the odd numbered cylinders 1,3,5 and the pass has the even 2,4,6. The firing order is 1,6,5,4,3,2 and the coils should be from front to rear 6,3,2,5,4,1 Check the diagram below for referance.
