Exclamation tune up... advice please..

Well I've been putting it off as long as possible due to not working, but the Z feels like it's got a bit of a rough idle and is a little sluggish taking off so I'm thinking she is overdue for some maintenance. No codes yet. I start my new job on Tuesday so I'll be driving her daily again. I plan to at least do plugs and wires, but was wondering what else is recommended? The mileage is 128,xxx. Any tips to make this process easier..special tools, etc? What brand/type of plugs and wires? This is new to me, I'm used to the ease of working on the Monte, haha. Thanks in advance.

Plugs and wires are a great start. I used NGK Rapid Fires on mine about a month ago and it seemed to help alot. The next step would be a coolant flush and/or oil change. As for oil, I use valvoline full synthetic. It's always done good in my car. You might want to check your sir filter for giggles and see if it looks ok. Also check/replace the fuel filter if you haven't done that yet. Good luck

I've kept current on the oil, it will probably need it again soon though. I'm using Mobil 1. The air filter is clean, I have the K&N and I keep an eye on it. I will definitely look into the fuel filter though, thanks.

No prob. Might want to PM craby though lol. He seems to know these cars top to bottom. So I'm sure he could tell you exactly what needs done and what doesn't.

I switched to K&N oil filter and noticed better oil pressure right away, it is slightly longer with more filtering paper inside for better flow. Any good name brand oil is good, Mobile being one of the best, I am trying Royal Purple now, but not sure if I wll keep useing it, expensive. Get some B12 carb and injector cleaner and run it through a full tank of gas to clean your fuel system, its the strongest you can buy, its in a metal can. Check air filter. And Ditto on craby !

I'm thinking about getting these wires. Anyone else have experience with them?

The tune up on an LS1 is not too bad. You can get to all but one plug from the top of the car but #8 needs to be had from underneath. Trust me here I have tried to get it from the top and well I ended up losing that battle and some skin on my arm. The drivers side is easy peasy on all 4 the pass side is easy on the first 2 but a pain on the third and the rear #8 is not too bad from underneath. You will need s 3/8 universal for a couple of the plugs but no other special tools will be needed.

The wires should be fine, they look like the short ones for the LS1 engines. The truck engines have a longer wire and BWD does not sell the shorter wire so you get only long ones which hang all over the place in the camaro.

Other than that the fuel filter and other normal maintenance stuff should be done, and you should be good to go.

I would get the AC Delco's plats. They lasted 130,000 plus the first time.

Assuming that you meant parts, this is a very interesting suggestion. I have never thought about this this way.
